Ethelyn A. Drown

Ethelyn A. Drown, 94, longtime resident of Alfred, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at her home. She was born in Portland, July 27, 1910 and was a devoted wife and mother. She worked for a short time as a seamstress, but was primarily a homemaker. Mrs. Drown enjoyed growing her own vegetables and tending to her flower gardens. An excellent cook, Mrs. Drown made homemade deer mincemeat. Mrs. Drown was an avid bird watcher.She was a member of the Alfred Parish Church and was a former Worthy Matron of the Fern Chapter # 139 Order of Eastern Star.Survivors include her son, Raymond and his wife, Barbara Drown of Alfred. 3 Nieces: Kay Meyerhoff of Shapleigh; Gloreen Drown of So. Portland and Charleen Welch of Alfred. 7 Grandchildren: Montgomery Drown of Sanford; Karl A. Knight of Waterboro; Gloria Hussey of Springvale; Susan Lewis of Midland, TX; Debbie Laskey of Waterboro; Gail Ouellette, of Alfred and Linda Provencher of Sanford. 16 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren.Mrs. Drown was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Harland in 1998 and by her daughter, Carolyn Knight Mitchell in 1994.A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, August 12, 2004 at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred at 10:30 am with Rev. Bruce Burnham, officiating. There will be no calling hours.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alfred Fire & Rescue, P.O. Box 36, Alfred, ME 04002.
