Ethel I. Lemire, 91, of Sanford, died May 30 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.She was born in Sanford on January 28, 1919, the daughter of Seymour and Bessie (Staples) Ainsworth.Her loving husband of 71 years Paul, who will be 93 this year, survives her along with her sons Keith, Bruce, Ronald, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.Ethel loved to tell you a joke and make sure the two stray cats got warm milk every day. She looked forward to her bridge game every Tuesday and would watch Andre Rieu daily if she could. She loved eating out and at home her favorites were peanut butter sandwiches, yogurt, apples, chocolate chip cookies and blueberry nut bread.She always hustled to get to church one hour early to spend time with some of her friends.She loved sitting outside admiring the flowers and watching the chipmunks. She had some special neighbor friends who she enjoyed the company of and who cared very deeply for her.We thank you all for the friendship you gave her and know she loved you in a very genuine way. We will all miss her and we love her very much.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Sanford First Baptist Church, 905 Main Street, Sanford. The Rev. Ginny Gass will officiate. Burial will be in the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
