Ernestine M. Lovell, of Shapleigh passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 28, 2023, just one day shy of her 102nd birthday. She was born on October 29, 1921, to Ernest and Helen (Moreau) Thibodeau in Presque Isle, Maine. She was the 3rd girl in the family, so they named her after her father. They went on to have 10 more children. When she was three years old the family moved to Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools. She attended St. Ignatius School. On February 15,1950, she married Richard H. Lovell, and they shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2007. Ernestine embraced marriage and motherhood with her whole self. Ernestine was a member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church and later when she wasn't able to make it to Mass, watched it on television daily. She enjoyed cooking and baking, winning awards with her delectable entries at the Acton Fair. She also enjoyed exercising at the Trafton Senior Center in Sanford for over 30 years. Ernestine read anything she could get her hands on. She was never satisfied with her formal education and finally attended Adult Education and received her diploma at the age of 65. With her excellent knowledge of life in Sanford, Ernestine could tell you of other resident's marriage, offspring, career, who left town for other adventures and so on. She knew so much of Sanford's history. Ernestine is now in her heavenly home with her Savior Jesus Christ who was alive in her heart. So, we celebrate a live well lived. She is predeceased by her husband Richard Lovell and her daughter Eileen M. Lovell Marsh who passed away at age 60 in 2011. Also, her siblings Ruth, Alma, Rose, Martha, Lucille, Cecile, Henry, Phil, Pete, Leo, Claire and Kay. Survivors include her son Thomas Lovell of NY, Sandra White, and her husband David of Shapleigh, grandchildren Ben, Kara, Jake, Dallas, Heather, Sarah, and Ryan, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church with burial following at Forest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
