Emma R. Kane

August 5, 1925 ~ January 17, 2017
Scarborough - Our Mom, Emma R. Kane, went to join her beloved husband, Joe, on January 17th, 2017, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by her beloved family. Mom was born the fourth child of Remi and Myrtle (Hayer) Labrecque on August 5, 1925. Mom grew up in Westbrook and graduated from Westbrook High School. It was at the Westbrook High dance that she met the love of her life, our father, Joseph Kane, and the rest is history. When Dad went off to war, mom worked at the South Portland Shipyards. Upon Dads return they were married on May 1st, 1947. In the early years of marriage mom took a job with Metropolitan Life Insurance where she worked until the birth of her favorite son, Dan, soon to be followed 18 months later by her son Tim. After raising her sons, Mom went back to Metropolitan Life Insurance where she retired poolside at her Francis Street home. Family meant everything to Mom as seen through her great love for all her nieces and nephews. She would refer to her nieces as her girls. Mom took care of Dad the last few years of his life until he passed in 1995. Mom was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret Walter of Michigan, Philip Alice of Westbrook, Clarence Helen of Westbrook, Charlotte Leo of Westbrook. Mom was also predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary, who died at child birth. Mom is survived by her son, Daniel Kane and his wife Margaret of South Portland and their two children Alex and Rachel and Rachels fianc Brandon. Her second son, Timothy Kane and wife Michelle of Cape Elizabeth and their three sons Sean and his wife Erin Kit, Ryan and his wife Shannon, Patrick and his wife Candace. Also Mom is survived by her great grandchildren, Emma Kane, Adella Kane, and Owen Kane who they affectionately called, Gram Gram. We cannot finish without thanking all of Moms nieces and nephews who we know loved her with all their hearts. We would like to thank the crew at Gosnell Hospice House for their support and care through these difficult times. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017, from 4-8PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 10:15AM followed by an 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
Dan and Tim, May God bring forth peace that passes all understanding. With memories of a life time in your hearts will she forever be. I love Aunt Emma from the deepest parts of my being, I received back 10 fold. She gave a love only she could give. A smile and a encouraging word when needed, and truth for direction if warranted. Her love for all us brought so much joy. As she would walk into ones homes so did she walk into ones heart. Today is a day to rejoice knowing she is with her loved ones, and know it was hard for her to leave your families.May you feel the love from heaven, and know we all care for you both. God Bless and May He continue to wrap his heavenly arms around you.Love,Alison

My favorite childhood memories star Aunt Emma and Uncle Joe. It just wasn’t Christmas on Spruce St until they came to the house with their little tray of spiked eggnog and a special glass (without the alcohol, of course!) just for me. Love both of them and now they are together again. I will miss my visits with her when I come home to Maine. May she Rest In Peace and may Gods love and the knowledge they are together again comfort the families. I am so sorry for your loss.Rosemary
