South Portland - Elizabeth "Betty" Slane, 84, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born in Portland, Maine on October 20, 1936, the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Lyden) Foley. A true Irish-Catholic family from Portland, Betty attended St. Dominic Gramar School and Cathedral High School. She Married John Slane Jr. on May 26, 1962 in Portland, Maine. Throughout her working life, Betty was employed with Jordan Marsh and Maine Eye Center. Always a woman of faith, she was a Communicant of Holy Cross Church for serval years. Betty loved going to breakfast with her cousins, and loved watching sports, especially the New England Patriots. After retirement, she spent many years going on annual trips to New York City with friends. Betty most enjoyed spending time with her grandsons. She attended their Spring events, graduations, holidays, loved to have sleepovers or babysitting them. She was predeceased bet her parents, Martin and Mary Foley; her sister, Margaret Sieben; and her husband, John Slane Jr. Betty is survived by her children, Brain Slane of South Portland, Tim Slane of South Portland and Karen Loignon and husband Scott of Gray; her two grandsons, Aidan and Seamus Loignon both of Gray. She is also survived by many extended relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center R9 and R4 for their care and support as well as the staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for making Bettys final hours so peaceful. A Graveside Ceremony will be held on Monday, September 13 at 10:00AM at New Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
