Elgena Cook

Elgena D. Cook, 83, of Shapleigh, passed away at her home in Shapleigh on Thursday May 10, 2007. She was born in Ramp, West Virginia on October 16, 1923, a daughter of David A. and Icye I. (O'Bryan) Dick. She graduated from Green Sulphur District High School Class of 1942 in Sandstone, West Virginia. She then attended Bluefield Business College in West Virginia.She worked several years in Washington D.C., for the government. It is here that she met her future husband, Irving W. Cook and they were married on April 6, 1944. Along with her husband they owned and operated a contracting business in Shapleigh until his passing in 1986.Prior to declining health she had been an active member of the Shapleigh Corner Baptist Church and had also served as secretary of the Ross Corner Baptist Church.She is predeceased by her husband, Irving W. Cook, one brother, Dore Dick, one sister, Velma Morgan. She is survived by her children, Cynthia M. Shaw, Cheryl R. Cook and Glenn B. Cook, siblings, Devanna H. Dick of New York, India C. Saintsing of Virginia, Darold N. Dick, Alton V. Dick, of Virginia, Albra K. Young of Virginia, Deanna O. Young of Virginia and Orvis C. Dick of Maryland, two grandchildren, Glenda J. Cook and Ashley H.
