FALMOUTH - Eleanor Margaret Johnston Goduti, 91, died on February 1, 2013. She was born in Bar Harbor, Maine, on October 15, 1921, the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Cunningham) Johnston. Eleanor, "Lynn", grew up in Bar Harbor, and graduated from Bar Harbor High School, class of 1939. She then went on to receive her associate's degree from Westbrook College in 1941. In 1951, she married Richard Julius Goduti and remained happily married until his death in 1987. Aside from raising their children, they spent much time traveling to Europe, the Caribbean, and Vero Beach, Florida. They were members of the Portland Country Club, the Portland Yacht club, and season pass holders of the Portland Symphony orchestra with many of their friends. Lynn was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. In 1980, she started an at home interior design business named The Orange Tree. This expanded to a shop in Falmouth named Country Living which she and a partner operated until 1985. Living in Falmouth, Eleanor attended St. Mary the Virgin Church and was a member of their garden club. She also donated her time and expertise to Greater Portland Landmarks, the Portland Museum of Art, and the Tate House. Lynn enjoyed gardening, cooking, and painting. She especially enjoyed her time in the Rangeley Lakes region, dining out and fly fishing. Later in life, when she could not pursue many of these activities, she remained active with her friends and an integral component of her family until her death last Friday. Lynn's quick wit, classy approach to life, and family monitoring (forever a mother) will always be remembered. Her loving devotion to her family will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Eleanor is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard. She is survived by her three sons; John Goduti and partner Bill Alfonzo of New York, NY; Richard Goduti and wife Shannon of Falmouth and their children Ian, Lex, Matt, and Neil; and James Goduti and wife Beth of Cape Elizabeth and their sons Nicholas and William; her brother, Lawrence Charles Johnston and wife Carolyn of Ellsworth; close cousins, Frances Dean of Mill Valley, CA, and Barbara Williams of East Booth Bay Harbor; and 7 nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Pat Lyons, her primary care person and friend. And also to Sherri Moynihan who assisted in care. They would like to thank the staff at Oceanview, the Falmouth EMS, and the professional, caring staff of Maine Medical Center ER and Richards 2. Guestbook

  1. Mrs. Goduti was the gracious host with her daughter-in-law Beth of my baby shower when I was new to Maine, and was so kindly welcomed into her home. Her elegance and style left a big impression on me, and I’ll always retain warm memories of that kind reception.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss; your father and mother were very good friends of my father and mother (Jim and Bay Parker) and I remember many evenings when they got together for cocktails or dinner. As a child I thought your mother was absolutely beautiful! I saw her a couple of times in passing in the more recent past and enjoyed a brief chat about the old days. My thoughts are with you and with her.

  4. Dear family, I’ve known your mom for thirty five years. I was taken back when I recieved the phone call your mom had passed away. I saw her every week, for an hour and a half. I learned a lot about her over the years. She was very proud of her sons accomplishements. I’ve heard so many family stories that I feel I know all of you. I have so many stories from over the years, one I think of when she opened her store in Falmouth my hair salon was upstairs from her. We had a fire and guess where all the water went, down on all of her inventory! Another story I loved was, when she was riding with her father in the Model T the door flew open while he was going around a corner, she started to pitch out and he grabbed her by the ankles! how much she loved fishing. She certainly was a worrier about her family. Her uneasiness when Lex was in Afganistan, To whenever the family flew anywhere. She even could tell when I had something on my mind. She would always ask me what was going on, and would try to give comforting advice. We both agreed that it wasn’t easy being a mother to sons. I could go on and on, but wish everyone well. I truly dread 11:00 friday where she will truly be missed. sincerly, Meg and the staff at Toves hair salon.
