Eleanor L. Downs

Eleanor L. Downs, 93, of Sanford, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at Greenwood Center in Sanford, ME.Mrs. Downs was born on December 17, 1912 to Samuel and Jessie Stillings in North Berwick, ME. She grew up there on the family dairy farm and graduated from North Berwick High School. Eleanor enjoyed sewing and knitting as well as vegetable and flower gardening. She was also an excellent cook; people were particularly fond of her homemade bread and apple turnovers. Mrs. Downs was warm and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending most of her time around her home and was always made herself available to help friends and family. She will be remembered for her devotion to her loved ones and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, James A. Downs and a grandson, Raemon Ricker.Surviving are a son, James E. Downs and his wife Jane of Derry, NH; two daughters Jacqueline Rand and her husband Donald of Lebanon, ME and Patricia Gagne and her husband Richard of Somersworth, NH; three grandchildren, Karl Ricker of Somersworth, NH, James A. Downs of Loudon, NH and Karen Roy of Weare, NH; 6 great-grandchildren, Tara Ricker and Kori Ricker of Dover, NH, Katie, Jay and Jacob Downs of Loudon, NH and Christopher Roy of Weare, NH.A period of visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a funeral service following at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 14, 2006 at Carl-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale, ME. Interment will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
