Edith A. Wright

Edith A. Wright, 74, passed away on February 13, 2005 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine, surrounded by family and friends.Edith was born February 21, 1930 on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Burleigh and Grace (Wilson) Wright. She graduated from Sanford High School, Class of 1948 and Nasson College in 1952.Edith taught high school in both MA and NH and then moved to Annville, PA. She earned her graduate degree in Women's Studies from Penn State. She was an activist for women's rights. She founded and presided over the first chapter of the National Organization for Women in Lebanon Valley and was instrumental in bringing about positive change toward equality in the Pennsylvania school system. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Annville, PA.While in Maine, Mrs. Wright was a member of Unit # 19 American Legion Auxiliary, Thomas W. Cole Post, Sanford, Maine.Edith was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick A. Stritch and their son, Scott A. Stritch. She is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Barbara Stritch and Barbara's husband, Lloyd "Butch" Buchter, with whom Edith lived in Acton; her son, Frederick A. Stritch, Jr. and his wife, Sheryl Karosen of Sarasota, FL; her sister, Marilyn Earle of Sanford; her brother, Allen S. Wright, of San Jose, CA; her grandson, Michael Hartenstine of Acton; and her devoted best friend of 70 years, Joyce Foley of Melrose, MA.Graveside Services will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in the spring.
