Edith Legere

Edith M. Legere, 101, of Sanford, died on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Edith was born in Hyde Park, MA on October 16, 1907 to Edward and Albenia (Dufresne) Doucette and attended local schools. She married Walter J. Legere, Sr. in 1931 and together they had four children. In 1953, Edith and her family moved to Maine. She had worked as a seamstress in Dress shops in both Massachusetts and Maine and then was employed for a time at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Edith was a devout Catholic and made it a point to watch mass on television every day. She was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church in Sanford and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed watching wrestling and liked knitting and crocheting. She had made an afghan for nearly everybody in her family. When she was younger she had enjoyed traveling and had gone to several places around the country. Edith liked to keep in touch with people and was constantly sending letters out to her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and will be dearly missed.Edith was predeceased by her husband, Walter Legere, Sr. and two children, Walter Legere, Jr. and Mary Legere.Surviving are a daughter, Albenia Connors of Sanford; a son, Joseph E. Legere of North Carolina and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 2nd at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
