Edgar G. Turmelle

Edgar G. Turmelle, 82 years old of Shapleigh, ME died Friday March 21, 2003 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.Mr. Turmelle was born on July 12, 1920 in Quebec City, Canada. He was the son of Theodore and Clara Smith Turmelle. At a young age he moved to the States and worked for many years as a Jr. High School teacher in Rumford, ME.Mr. Turmelle was an avid sports enthusiast. It did not matter what sport was on television, or the radio, he was tuned in. If Mr. Turmelle was not watching or listening, he was coaching, or officiating some type of athletic event. Mr. Turmelle was a Pearl Harbor survivor, and proud veteran of WWII.Surviving ids his wife of nearly 56 years Ruth Tibbetts Turmelle of Shapleigh; three daughters, Beth and John Williams of Cumberland, ME, Sara and Thomas Winter of Gambrills, MD, Martha Turmelle of Sanford, ME; two sons, Allan and Sandra Turmelle of Charleton, MA, John and Andrea Turmelle of Brewer, ME, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Wilfrid Turmelle of N. Yarmouth, ME and Robert Turmelle of Enfield, CT.A 10:00 AM Memorial Mass for Mr. Turmelle will be held on Wednesday March 26, 2003 at Notre Dame R.C. Church in Springvale, ME.For those that desire memorials may be made to the donors' choice.
