Earle L. "Skip" Littlefield, 74, of Lebanon, died in Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Frisbee Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New Hampshire.Skip was born in Sanford on August 19, 1936 to Lester and Mildred (Welch) Littlefield and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after high school. In 1957 he married Sylvia Horne and they would spend the next 53 years together and raise four children. In 1961 he and his wife moved to Lebanon where he lived for the rest of his life. After leaving the Navy, Skip was employed for several years in the Sanford mills. He then enrolled in McIntosh College and earned an accounting degree. After finishing college he went to work for the University of New Hampshire where he stayed for the next 23 years until retiring in 1993.Skip was a member of the Masonic Lodge #109 in Springvale, a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shiner. He was a Past Commander of the DAV Post #119 and Past Maine State Commander of the DAV. He was a Notary, former president of the PTA at Lebanon Elementary School and had served as the property tax collector for the Town of Lebanon for several years in the 1980's. Skip was a very generous man who would do anything he could to help those around him. He had a great sense of humor liked joking back and forth with people. He was an outgoing person with many friends and always enjoyed going out to eat with his wife. Skip served as the unofficial "Watch Commander" of Bigelow road in Lebanon and was always concerned for the well being of the children and elderly that lived in the area. He will be remembered as a kind man who was very giving of himself and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sylvia "Shirley" Littlefield of Lebanon; two sons, William Littlefield and his wife Wendy of Sanford and Douglas Littlefield and his wife Susan of Belmont, ME; two Daughters, Kerri McCommish and her husband Scott of Lebanon and Melissa Littlefield of Barrington, NH; a brother, Fredrick Welch of State College, PA; seven grandchildren, four great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.A memorial service followed by a gathering will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 27th at the Nute Ridge Bible Chapel, 100 Nutes Road, Milton, NH.
