Douglas Emerson, 91, of North Berwick, formerly of Lynn, MA, died Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kennebunk following a brief illness.Douglas was born in Lynn, MA on February 15, 1919 to Albert and Maisie (Devine) Emerson and attended local schools. On December 31, 1938 he married Irene Erickson and they raised three children and spent nearly 70 years together until her death in 2008. Douglas served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 99th Infantry (Checkerboard) Division, serving in the Battle of the Bulge, among others. After serving in the military he started his own trucking business and also worked for Moran Fuel in Lynn, MA for several years before retiring to North Berwick, ME. He was a devout Christian and served as organist at the Second Baptist Church in North Lebanon, ME for many years. He was also a train and truck enthusiast and enjoyed taking trips to the ocean. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Surviving are three children, Sandra L. Vaccaro of Sanford, ME, Thomas E. Emerson of Huntington Beach, CA and Wayne W. Emerson of Wildwood, FL; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 7th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 8th at 11:00 AM at the Lebanon Second Baptist Church, located on Bakers Grant Road in North Lebanon.
