Cumberland - Douglas "Doug" Coyle, died on Nov. 24, 2022 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Doug was born in Danbury, CT, on Oct 3, 1958, the son of the late Francis (Buzzy) and Eleanor (Ellie) Coyle. He grew up in Bethel, CT where he graduated from Bethel High School in the class of 1976. After high school, he graduated from New Hampshire College with Bachelor's degree. He worked as a field engineer at IBM for over 20 years and then went back to school to receive a degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Maine. After that, he opened his own accounting firm, Windward Payroll and Accounting, which he passionately ran until his passing. In his free time, Doug loved to be outdoors. Years ago, Doug biked across America to raise money for the Newington Children's hospital, but most recently you could find him mountain biking and cross country skiing in the many trails around his Cumberland home. He also enjoyed cooking, downhill skiing, hunting, and doing yard work around the house, but Doug's true passion was sailing. He loved to sail and race in Casco Bay on his Ericson and Etchells sail boats. For many years, Doug, Carroll, and the kids would take vacations cruising up and down Maine's rocky coast. He was an active and beloved member of the Portland Yacht Club, and thoroughly enjoyed being part of that community. Above all, though, Doug was a loving and devoted husband and father. Doug is predeceased by his sister, Pamela Louise Coyle in 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Carroll of Cumberland; his children, Jaime of Denver, CO, Joshua of Houston, TX, and Timothy of Boston, MA; and his sister, Jill Coyle of Falmouth, ME. Doug's family would like to thank his friends and family for the support they have given to Carroll, Jaime, Josh, and Tim since Doug's diagnosis. Doug's funeral service will be held at Saint Patricks Church in Yorktown Heights, New York, on December 10th, 2022 at 10:00am. There will be a celebration of life held in Maine in the spring. Details will be listed in Doug's CaringBridge once finalized: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/dougcoyle/journal Memorial contributions may be made to the Doug Coyle Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Sail Maine Community Sailing Center, https://give.classy.org/dougcoylememorialfund

  1. We were so very blessed to meet and spend many weeks with Doug and Carroll at Hope Lodge during treatments. We celebrated as Doug improved slowly but surely and envied his nightly ice cream indulgence . And what about his newly found love for Latin food and my Irish soda bread with dried cherries!! Kind, warm , caring and passionate about sailing. A life well lived, although too short, surrounded by his beautiful children and the love of his life, Carroll, who filled his life with joy and light. Sail into the wind among the clouds, our friend, in Heaven’s light.

  2. My condolences to the Coyle family. Prayers and love from my family. I worked with Doug in the printing business after he left IBM. In later years, Doug and I worked together when he was the as the accountant for two non profits. Doug was one of the most caring persons on this earth and will be sorely missed.
