Dorothy D. Roberts, 91, of 34 Turner Street, Springvale, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford. She was born in Somerville, MA, a daughter of Andrew and Iva Lou (Hobbs) Dowbridge.She attended schools in Reading, MA, Sanford, ME and graduated from Bellows Falls (VT) High School and then attended Brattleboro (VT) Business Institute.In 1934 she married Roscoe B. Roberts and moved to Saco, ME, where she was active in the American Red Cross during WWII. In 1946 she moved to Wilmington, DE and lived there until moving to Alfred, ME in the '50's, and finally to Sanford-Springvale in the early '60's.Over the years Mrs. Roberts was a former member of the YWCA and chaired the Y-Wives Committee. In Sanford, she was active in the Springvale Friends of the Library. She was a former member of the Goodall Hospital Lady's Auxiliary. She was a member of and served on many committees at North Parish Congregational Church, UCC. She was a member of Annette Chapter, OES, Saco. Mrs. Roberts was also an oil and watercolor artist for over 40 years, taking classes from Cal Wilson, and was a long time member of the Sanford-Springvale Art Association.She was predeceased by her Husband of 38 years, Roscoe B. Roberts in 1972 and her daughter, Barbara R. Goodrich in 1977.She is survived by a sister, Marion Pollard of Sanford; a granddaughter, Linda and her husband Brian Haley and children Kimberly and Christopher of Littleton, CO; a grandson, Alan and his wife Donna Goodrich and children Gregory and Tyler of Springvale; a niece, Pat Baldwin of Shapleigh; a niece Janet Guignard and nephew Stanley Lane and several cousins.A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 11:00 am at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, where relatives and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Carlton Gunn, pastor of North Parish Congregational Church, will officiate. Interment in the spring will be in Riverside Cemetery, Springvale.Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to North Parish Congregational Church, 893 Main Street, Sanford 04073, or American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street - Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
