Scarborough- Dorothy L. Picher, 80, of Cedarbrook Road died peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2015 at her daughters home in Rhode Island following a brief illness. She was born in Montclair, New Jersey on February 11, 1935 the daughter of Heinrich and Rosalia Fitz Lackmann. Dorothy attended local schools and graduated from Sacred Heart Junior College in Belmont, North Carolina and then the Mercy Hospital School of X-Ray Technology in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dorothy worked for the Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, PA for a period of time. She then met and married Francis X. Picher, Jr. Once they decided to start their family Dorothy became a full time homemaker to raise their four children. In her spare time Dorothy was an avid volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House and with the Breast Cancer Center at Maine Medical Center. She was a long time member and volunteer with the Scarborough Garden Club and had a strong passion and love of gardening and birdwatching. She loved playing bridge and looked forward to her weekly bridge club and was also an avid reader. Her greatest love was the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Francis X. Picher and a son Jeffrey F. Picher. She is survived by two daughters Lori M. and her husband Mark Jones of Tewksbury, MA and Joni N. Fortin of Richmond, RI; a son David S. and his wife Michelle Picher of Tewksbury, MA; a brother Bernie and his wife Ann Lackmann of NC; six grandchildren Lindsay Jones of MA, Isabelle Picher of MA, Parker Fortin of RI, Rachel Picher of MA, Bennett Fortin of RI and Emily Picher of MA along with several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy and her son, Jeffrey, will be celebrated on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Burial for Dorothy and her son Jeffrey will follow at Scarborough Memorial Cemetery in Scarborough, ME.
