Dorothy M. Melvin

Dorothy M. Melvin, 84 years old, of Sanford, ME died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 in Sanford, ME.Mrs. Melvin was born on June 23, 1921 in Hartland, ME. She was the daughter of Orel and Leah (Spencer) Fields. She attended schools in Stockton Springs, and over the years she worked at several places including General Electric, The First National Grocery Store, Sanford Shoe, and Sprague Electric.Mrs. Melvin was a very active woman. She was a member of the 4-H, the Campfire Girls, a Pack Leader for the Cub Scouts, the order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Springvale First Baptist Church; where she once served as a deaconess.Mrs. Melvin enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making towels for her family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping, and going out to eat, and she had a flower garden that she enjoyed tending to. Mrs. Melvin enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, and often cared for those that had difficulty caring for themselves.Predeceasing her is her husband Ralph Melvin Sr.Surviving are two daughters, Leah M. Perry~Jordan of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Rebecca M. Papagno of Augusta, ME; a son, Robert P. Harrington Jr. of Springvale, ME; a stepson, Ralph "Lee" Melvin Jr. of Alfred, ME, and a sister Pearl Jackson of Lincolnville, ME. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.At her request, there will be no prior visitation; a graveside service will be held in the spring of 2006.
