Dorothy O. 'Grammy' Locke, 84, of Alfred, died February 2 at the Newton Center in Sanford after a brief illness.She was born in Sparks, Nevada on August 6, 1920, the daughter of William A. and Ollie (Harvey) Stanley. She moved to Oregon as a child where she attended school. She then moved to San Francisco, CA where she lived for several years. It was there that she met Roy L. Locke whom she married on June 11, 1945 before he was to set ship out into World War II.They came to this area after the war, and she had been employed, and then retired from, the former Sprague Electric Company in Sanford. In her retirement, she decided to go back to work and was employed for several years with HMS Host at the Burger King Plaza at Exit 3 on the Maine Turnpike. As one of the older employees, her co-workers all called her Grammy, a name by which she became universally known.Survivors include her husband of Alfred, 2 sons, James Locke of Alfred and Robert Locke of Coventry, RI, 7 daughters, Phyllis MacDonald of Lyman, Sally Hobkirk of Starks, FL, Donna Palmer of Alfred, Sandra Ramon of Eustis, FL, Diane Locke of Alfred, Linda Tripp of Acton, Nancy LeBrun of Alfred, 25 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.A Hundred Years TaleFrom the first time she saw that man she knew she's always knownShe turned that ring around as if it were never shownShe knew great things would happenGreat things throughout the yearsSeven girls all around with two brothers to hold them nearShe rocked with them and fed them and never walked out the doorAll the duties of a mommy and so much moreYears went by for another story to be toldThe tale of a million grandchildrenShe loved each and every one and showed how she was boldFond memories of toys hidden in her secret drawerThe feeling of such joy the moment we walked through the doorTucked in at night and a love story before we closed our eyesThe tale of a woman and a man at the bus stop was the sweetest lullabyNow the time has come to show our gratitudeWe are here to take care of youLike the way you used toWe love you very muchAnd no one could ever replaceThe woman with the sweetest faceWe all just wanted you to knowFrom every person of the familyYou are the world's Greatest Grammy by Lauren LockeThe family will receive relatives and friends at the family home at 152 Clark Road in Alfred on Friday at 6 :00 PM. Arrangements are through the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
