Doris Stearns

Doris M. Stearns, 89, of Limerick, died on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Cedars Nursing Home in Portland.Doris was born in Kezar Falls on December 22, 1921 to Fred and Cora Leavitt where she grew up and attended local schools. She worked for several years at General Electric in Limerick until she married Andre Morin in 1946. They were married for 25 years and raised two children before his death in 1971. She later married Hubert Stearns and they spent 24 years together until his death several years ago.Doris enjoyed dancing to and listening to big band music. She loved spending time around the house and spending time with her family. She was a very nurturing woman with a pleasant smile who always cared for those around her. She enjoyed being around children, particularly babies. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Cedars Nursing Home, Shapiro Unit, for the care and compassion shown to Doris and her family during the last nine years.Doris was predeceased by her first husband, Andre Morin and by her second husband, Hubert Stearns.Surviving are her daughter, Therese Morin of Buxton; a son, Larry Morin and his wife Sherry of Windham; a brother, Carroll Leavitt and his wife Doris of Cornish; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Highland Annex Cemetery in Limerick.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Cedars Nursing Home Activities Fund, 630 Ocean Avenue, Portland, ME 04103.To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
