Doris M. Pierce

Doris M. Pierce, 81, of Sanford, died Saturday, February 25, 2006, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Doris was born in Shapleigh on August 1, 1921 to Joseph and Lillian Burnell Driscoll. She was raised in Emery Mills and was a 1940 graduate of Sanford High School. After school, she worked for a time at the Goodall Mills in Sanford until she enlisted in the military in 1943. She served in the W.A.C as a chauffer at the Pentagon; she came into contact with many notable people through this position. She was discharged from her military service on January 17, 1946. She shared 55 years of marriage with her late husband, Charles Pierce who died in 2005. She will be remembered as a kind and loving person and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.Surviving are two sons Barry Pierce and his wife Karen, of Shapleigh and Arnold and his wife Sue of Shapleigh; one daughter, Joanne Tavenner and her husband Ronald of Virginia; three brothers, Ken Driscoll and his wife Peg, George Driscoll and his wife Mary and Charles Driscoll and his wife Marilyn; one sister, Irene Rankin and her husband Louis, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.A period of visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at 1:30 PM. Burial will take place in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery located in South Waterboro.
