Donald C. Rundlett, 71, of Sanford died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Donald was born on January 20, 1935 in New Portland, Maine to Eldreth and Caroline Nemire Rundlett. He was a 1953 graduate of Central High School in New Portland. Following high school, he served his country in U.S. Marine Corps. After he left the Marine Corps, he attended broadcasting school and hosted several programs on local radio stations. Later in life, he began working in the transportation industry and eventually came to own his own transportation company, Rundlett Transportation, which he owned and operated until he retired. Donald was the reigning president of the Sunset Tower Association, a position that he had held for approximately 6 years. He put a lot of time and energy into this position and helped to bring many improvements to the building. Mr. Rundlett was an amateur photographer, he never went anywhere without his camera. He took great pride in his family and even hosted his own website where he would proudly display the many pictures that he had taken of his family members. Donald loved attending family functions including his grandchildren's sporting events and family barbecues. He was famous for his "signature dishes," baked beans and fudge, which he would often bring to these family events. Donald was a very jovial person, always happy and laughing. He was also an excellent storyteller; his tales and happy demeanor could brighten any occasion. He was a very dependable man and was always there to lend a hand whenever he was needed. He was dearly loved by his friends and family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Donald was predeceased by a daughter, Wanda Russell. Surviving are a daughter, Wendy Ansara and her husband Jesse from Candia, NH; his son-in-law Wayne Russell and his wife Sharon of Saco; two sisters, Esther Peterson of Winchester, MA and Dorothy Chastain of Raleigh, NC; three brothers, William Rundlett from Michigan and Clayton and Robert Rundlett, both of New Portland and 6 grandchildren, Corey, Lynsie, Bryce, Shelby, Christopher and Kelsey. A period of visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2006, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will take place in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery located in South Waterboro.
