SanfordDolores "Dolly" G. (Emmons) Plante, 61 years old, of Sanford, devoted wife, mother, and Nana, died at her home on May 30, 2005, after a 1 1/2 year battle with cancer.Dolly was born on June 10, 1943 in Springvale, the daughter of Chester Emmons and Margaret Caiola Emmons. She graduated from Sanford High School with the class of 1961.Dolly retired due to illness from Demers Laboratory, where she had worked for 20 years, co-owning the business for 5 years. She had previously had worked for Sprague electric, then Goodall Hospital Laboratory and Diagnostic Biolabs for many years. While her children were young, Dolly served as the basketball commissioner and treasurer of SSYAA, and was active in the Sanford High Athletic Booster Club. She was well known to her neighbors and the community. Dolly was always willing to talk to anyone at anytime. She enjoyed playing cards, and knitting with her friends at their weekly Monday knitting group. Dolly was most proud of her children and their families, as they were a joyous part of her life. Predeceasing Dolly are her parents, and a sister Rachel Vaccaro.Surviving is her husband of 43 years, Robert Plante of Sanford; two sons, David and his wife Kristen of Sanford, Marc Plante of Sanford; two daughters, Rachel Vlk and her husband Mike of Cabot, Arkansas, Susan Cote of Sanford, and nine grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy, Samantha, Briana, Colby, Derrick, Morgan, Kira, and Kylie. Also surviving is her mother-in-law, Cecile (Plante) Therrien of Sanford; four sisters-in-law, Sister Aline Plante of Rome, Italy, Patricia Thibodeau and husband Hank of Springvale, Rita Pelletier of Sanford, Theresa Cote and her husband Mark of Springvale; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Plante and wife Irene of Sanford, William Vaccaro of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation for Mrs. Plante will be held on Friday June 3rd from 6 to 8 PM, at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale, ME. An 8:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday the 4th at Holy Family Church of Sanford. Committal services will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Abraham and his staff, the Beacon Hospice, and Apria Healthcare. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
