Dixie L. Shartle

Dixie L. Shartle, 70, of Springvale, died July 6 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness.She was born in San Francisco, CA on December 21, 1935, a daughter of Avin N. and Mary Christina (Valencia) Tracy. She moved to Tucson, AZ in 1972 and then to Maine in 1978.She was an avid pogo player on the internet. She loved to crochet dolls and would then donate them to charity. Most important to her was her family to whom she brought much joy. She touched many others outside of the family and had friends all over the world. She had plans to move back to Arizona at the end of this month to live out her final days.She was predeceased by her first husband, Lowell R. Smith 1, by her second husband George J. Shartle, by a daughter Constance A. Smith, by her parents, by her sister Mary Vincent, by her brother Earl Tracy, and by a great granddaughter, Destiny Star Jorgensen.Survivors include her companion of 33 years, Ivan D. Young of Springvale, 3 daughters, Patricia A. Bolduc of Springvale, Mikki M. Miller of Minnesota, Tracy Caron of Lyman, 6 sons, Tim Bowen and Dale Bowen, both of California, Lowell R. Smith 2 of Sanford, Michael A. Smith of Berlin, NH, Luis R. Smith of Springvale, Stephen M. Shartle of Virginia, a sister, Norma Wise of Yucaipa, CA, a brother Avin N. Tracy, Jr. of So. Carolina, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.A celebration of her life will be on Monday at 6:00 PM at the home of her son Luis Smith at 6 Lawrence Street in Springvale. Her cremated remains will be returned to Arizona.
