Dennis P. Nadeau passed away on Friday April 8, 2005 from renal cell cancer that had metastasized to his bones, lung and brain. Dennis had formerly undergone successful treatment for hairy cell leukemia in 1993.He was born in Dover, NH on June 19, 1955, a son of Florian "Ned" Nadeau and Marjorie Lorraine Meserve. He is a graduate of the Noble High School class of 1973, and a graduate of Southern Maine Technical College, where he earned a degree in Machine Tool Technology.On October 11, 1975 Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Linda Currier in Berwick ME. Together they enjoyed 29 years of marriage.Dennis began his career as a machinist at Rockwood Systems and W.H. Nichols in South Portland, ME. He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME for 18 years; where he rose to the position of supervisor in the production machine shop 31. In 1985 he started working as a professional letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service's, serving the communities of Biddeford, Saco, and Old Orchard Beach. Dennis retired in 2003 due to his illness.Especially important to Dennis was his role in volunteer positions to aid his community and youth. He served as a volunteer fire fighter, an EMT for the Wells High Pine Fire Department, as well as a Wells recreation soccer coach. Together with his wife he served as a troop leader for Webelos, and later became an Assistant Scoutmaster for Wells Boy Scout Troop 356, a position he held for 13 years. Also, he held the position of First assistant Scoutmaster at the 2001 National Boy Scout Jamboree. Most recently he was on the Advancement Committee of the Pine Tree Council of Maine.Dennis served as a coach of the children's Odyssey of the Mind teams, and saw these teams advance to National Competition.Dennis enjoyed spending time with his family, especially taking family vacations to destinations such as Niagara Falls, NY and Gettysburg, PA. He also enjoyed fishing, Camping, Canoeing, cross country skiing, and he was an avid sports fan.Predeceasing Dennis is his mother Marjorie Nadeau.Surviving are his wife, Linda Nadeau of Wells; a son, Nathan Nadeau and his girlfriend Jen Schmidtmann of Portland; two daughters, Lainey Nadeau of Waterboro and her fiance' Ryan Hooper, and Kelsey Nadeau of Wells, and her fiance' Joe Reed of Acton; a brother, Robert Nadeau of Terryville, Conn.; a sister Suzanne Malefant of Berwick; his father, Florian Nadeau of Berwick; his in-laws, Richard and Jean Currier of Berwick, and other extended family, co-workers from both the Portsmouth Shipyard, and the U.S. Postal Service, and friends who were a presence throughout his life and supportive to him and his family during his illness.Visitation for Dennis will be held on Tuesday, April 12th from 2 to 4 PM and from 6 to 9 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black funeral Home, 29 Winter St. Sanford; where funeral services will be held on Wednesday the 13th at 11:00 AM.The family suggests that memorial donations may be made in Dennis' memory to the Wells Boy Scout Troop 356, c/o Scoutmaster David Sinclair, 286 Burnt Mill Rd., Wells, ME 04090.
