Falmouth - Delores “Jane” (Markarian) Pierce, 78, passed away after a short battle with cancer on April 23, 2024 in Westbrook surrounded by her family. Jane was born on October 3, 1945 in Portland, daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth “Alice” (Cipriano) Markarian. Jane was born and raised in Portland, she attended Cathedral High School, graduating in 1963. Her journey continued at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where she embarked on a remarkable 37-year nursing career. Jane's dedication to Mercy Hospital extended beyond her role as a Registered Nurse; she also served as a teacher at the School of Nursing until its closure in 1987. In her final years of service, Jane transitioned into the role of Care Manager, where she tirelessly advocated for the needs and rights of patients. On July 13, 1968, Jane married Alfred "Fred" Pierce Jr., the love of her life. Together, they built a home in Windham, where they created countless cherished memories with their family. As a devoted Nana, Jane found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren, indulging in messy art projects, building Lego masterpieces, and giving cooking lessons. She showered her grandchildren with love and affection, often spoiling them with special shopping trips. Family held a special place in Jane's heart, having grown up in a large family herself. She treasured moments spent with loved ones, particularly during family vacations at their camps in Raymond and Milo, ME. Jane's legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Jane is predeceased by her father; son, Christopher Pierce, mother-in-law, and father-law, Christine L. and Alfred N. Pierce Sr. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Alfred Pierce Jr.; daughter Heidi MacDonald; grandchildren, Tristan, Mackenzie, and Gavin; mother, Alice; brother, Michael and his wife Linda Markarian; special cousin, Connie and her husband Tom White, many other cousins, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours for Jane will be held from 3-6pm on May 1, 2024 at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St. Portland. Funeral service at 12pm on May 2, 2024 at Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, Portland with a burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, 75 Smith St. Yarmouth to follow.
