Deborah “Debbie” Lavertu

Deborah “Debbie” Lavertu, 63, of Sanford, passed away suddenly on August 22, leaving behind a loving family and many cherished memories.

Debbie was born on February 18 in Cranston, Rhode Island. Anyone who knew Deb knew that she was a kind, loving, and caring person. She never hesitated to give her time, talent, and support to anyone who needed it. Her HUGE, generous heart and willingness to help others were among the qualities that made her so special to the many people whose lives she touched.

Debbie spent 27 working at Sanford Hannaford before beginning a career with the United States Postal Service Processing Center in Scarborough, Maine, where she worked until her retirement in 2020.

Debbie shared 44 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Daniel Lavertu. Together, they built a life filled with family, love, and memories that will be treasured always.

Debbie was also passionate about giving back to her community. She generously volunteered her time at various events at the Elks Club and at the Springvale Library. She also was a generous supporter and volunteer of the Sanford Alumni Association’s Spree of Trees. She absolutely loved her Christmas trees! She found joy in helping others and never hesitated to lend a hand when she was needed. She loved her backyard, her flowers and especially her pool where many hours were spent with family and friends.

Debbie was predeceased by her parents, E. Armand Talbot and Lynn Coffee, and her brother-in-law, David Legere.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Lavertu; her son, Justin Lavertu and his family of Saco, Maine; and her beloved granddaughter, Alexis of Sanford, who held a very special place in her heart. She also had a special bond with her niece Lexi.

She is also survived by her sisters, Donna Legere of Shapleigh and Dawn (Jim) Brown of Springvale; her brothers, Daniel (Lori) Talbot of Sanford and Darren (Susan) Talbot of Shapleigh; and her brother-in-law, Tommy (Linda) Lavertu of Sanford. She will also be lovingly remembered by her many cherished nieces and nephews, extended family, and amazing friends.

Debbie was an organ donor, and her family finds great comfort in knowing that through her generous gift, a part of her will live on in others. Even in her sudden passing, she was able to give the gift of hope to those in need. It is a beautiful part of her legacy and a reflection of the generosity that defined her life.

Debbie will be deeply missed by her husband, son, granddaughter, siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her sudden passing has left a profound emptiness, but the kindness she shared, the lives she touched, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Deb was our shining star. Shine on Deb.  We will miss you forever.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 3^rd at the Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale.  A celebration of Debbie’s life will follow at 1:00 PM at the Sanford Elks Lodge, located at 13 Elm Street in Sanford.
