David Allen Downes

David A. Downes, 49, died suddenly, Sunday, January 16, 2004 in Sanford.He was born May 28, 1955 in Bangor a son of Leon R. and Mary E. (Haney) Downes and was educated in the local schools. Mr. Downes was an excellent house painter, one that took great pride in his work and was particular when it came to details. He would spend hours prepping a job, scraping the many layers of paint, sanding and priming before the first coat of paint was applied. David was well known for his barbecue and grilling abilities. He would often invite family and friends in for one of his famous cookouts. David was willing to do just about anything to help his family and friends. He was committed to his wife, Caroline N. (Coombs) Downes who predeceased him in 2003 and his children. Mr. Downes was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sanford. Family survivors include his children, Stephanie D. Mace, Andrew U. Coombs, Amber N. Coombs and Rachel E. Downes; four brothers, Gerald Downes, Leon R. Downes, Jr. John P. Downes, Ricky J. Downes; one sister, Bernice Lippo; His in laws, Urban and Marion Coombs; Sister in law, Candice and Bruno Sumislaski; Brother-in-law, Harry and Iva Coombs and many nieces and nephews. His parents and one sister, Olita M. Downes, predeceased him.A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2005 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Westview Drive, Sanford.
