David R. Brown, 78, well known businessman, died April 27, 2004 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.He was born in Sanford, January 5, 1926 a son of Charles and Gertrude(Lockheart) Brown, Sr. and attended Sanford High School and two years at Nasson College in Springvale. Mr. Brown worked many years with the family business, Brown Lumbar Yard in Springvale and later was the proprietor of Brown's Television and Appliance & Son.Mr. Brown loved being with his family. He especially loved his little doggie, "Cricket." He was a former member of the Free Baptist Church in Springvale. He attended the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church and would often share his musical talents playing his accordian at Sunday night services. He would volunteer once a month, entertaining the residents of Mt. View Nursing Home. Mr. Brown was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Springvale. Mr. Brown served during WWII from 1943 - 1946 with the U.S. Navy. He was a Torpedoman's Mate, Third Class, serving in Rhode Island and California. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Marjorie (Vachon) Brown of Sanford; his daughter, Sandra and Kevin Weymouth of No. Waterboro; Stepdaughters, Janet Chapais of Waterboro; Anne Harmon of Springvale. 2 Grandchildren: Troy and wife, Marilu Payeur of New Jersey and Lacey-Megan Payeur of No. Waterboro. 8 Step-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.His brother: Franklin and wife, Wanda Brown of Shapleigh, Sisters: Gerturde and husband, Lawrence Cheney of No. Berwick and Gladys and husband, George Roberts of Alfred. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary J. (Prefontaine) Brown in 1988 and by his son, Stephen D. Brown. Also, by two brothers: Charles Brown, Jr. and Merrill "Bud" Brown and by a stepson: Alan Vachon.Funeral Services were held on Friday, April 30, 2004 at 11:30 am At the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church with Rev. David Maguire and Rev. David Tosi, co-officiated.Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Springvale. Memorial donations may be made to the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church, P.O.
