David L. Alexander

David L. Alexander, Sr., 56 of Howitt Rd., and most recently of Alfred died Sunday (March 12) at Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford, following a brief illness. He was born in Sanford October 28, 1949 a son of Orrin L. & Maxine (Cheney) Alexander. David was educated locally and was a graduate of Sanford High in 1968, where he played and excelled in baseball as a short stop and was voted MVP his senior year . He later would become involved with SSYAA and coach both baseball and basketball and won several championships. Mr. Alexander worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, beginning as an electrician and later moved up to calibration leaving there in 1985 after seventeen years of service to pursue other endeavors, to include owning and operating the former D&D I groceries in Sanford and also D&D II Groceries in Springvale. David in his career also owned and managed properties in southern York County to include Crystal Spring mobile home park in Scarborough. David was a member of the Son's of the American Legion and Amvets, the Sanford Lodge of Elks, the Day Spring Masonic Lodge #107 of W. Newfield, a life member of both the FRAT Club and Wolf's Club.Family members said that David was deeply loved by his family & friends and will missed by everyone whom he knew. He was a very loyal and dependable individual.He was predeceased in life by his parents and three sisters, Shirley Vachon, twins, Jane McGrath & Geraldine Alexander.Survivors are his wife of 24 years, Donnal L. (Dowey) Alexander of Lyman, his daughter Crystal Parker and her husband Shawn of Sanford, his sons, David Jr., and his wife Holly of Sanford, and Matthew attending USM in Gorham. Three grandchildren Brady & Tori Parker & Libby Alexander. Three brothers, Sherman & Orrin both of Sanford, and Paul of Springvale, along with three sisters, Betty Wilkinson of Rochester, NH, Beverly Charette of Sanford and Kathy Alexander of Limerick, and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford.
