Darin W. DeWitt, 39, of Shapleigh died at his home in on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 surrounded by his family.Darin was born to Daniel and Florence Redlevske DeWitt on May 9, 1966 in Saco where he attended local schools; he was a Biddeford High School graduate. Darin was a very outgoing man with many interests including snowmobiling, camping, canoeing, hunting, fishing and virtually any outdoor activity. He was a NASCAR enthusiast who always enjoyed watching his favorite driver, Mark Martin, race. Pigeon racing was another passion of his; he was very active in the Sanford Pigeon Racing Club where he held the position of secretary. Darin was very fond of his pets; he enjoyed playing with his beloved pit bull, (Cujo) Riley Bones and his cat, Sissa.The most important things to Darin in life were his family and friends. There was a barbecue or some sort of family gathering taking place at his home virtually every weekend. These gatherings were a very special time for Darin, he always enjoyed being around his many family members and playing with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Darin was also a very dependable person, he was always there for his friends and family, whether it was to lend a hand moving something in his pickup or offering a shoulder to cry on, he was always there. Darin will be remembered as a very special guy; he is gone from our lives, but not from our hearts.Surviving are his wife, Susan DeWitt of Shapleigh; his daughter, Ashley DeWitt of Waterboro; his son, Aaron "A.J." DeWitt of Virginia Beach, VA; his step-son, Richard Saindon Jr. of Georgia; two step-daughters, Angie Saindon of Sanford and Carie Benvie of Shapleigh; three brothers, Royce Stevens of Biddeford, Daniel DeWitt III of North Berwick, and Douglas DeWitt of West Newfield; two sisters, Joyce Brann of Wells and Roberta Witham of Biddeford and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.A period of visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, 2005 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A graveside funeral service will be held at Highland Grove Cemetery in Shapleigh on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Maine Children's Cancer Program, 100 Campus Drive, Scarborough ME 04074 or to the DeWitt Family, 1519 Shapleigh Corner Road, Shapleigh, ME 04076.
