Conrad G. Turgeon, 55 years old of Springvale, ME died Thursday July 31, 2003 in Togus, ME.Mr. Turgeon was born on September 1, 1947 to Gerard and Rita White Turgeon in Biddeford, ME. Mr. Turgeon attended Sanford schools and graduated from Sanford High School where he excelled as an athlete, and especially at wrestling. Following his education Mr. Turgeon enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving in Vietnam he was promoted to Sergeant while serving as a Senior Security Policeman, and Sentry Dog Handler. Mr. Turgeon received several awards and commendations while serving from 1967 to 1971, which included the Air Force Commendation Medal.Following his military career Mr. Turgeon worked as a foreman for over 25 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until retirement.Athletics were an important part of Mr. Turgeons' life. For several years he coached the Zippy Copy Center baseball team, and played for the Elks Lodge over 40 men's baseball team. Mr. Turgeon was an active member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the Sanford /Springvale Youth Athletic Association. Mr. Turgeon also enjoyed gardening, and word puzzles.Surviving are his parents Mr. & Mrs. Gerard (Rita) Turgeon of Sanford, his wife of 31 years Vivian Labbe Turgeon of Springvale, a son Shawn Turgeon of Saco, ME, a daughter Michelle Turgeon of Augusta GA, a step-son Craig Durnin of Kittery, ME, a brother Mike Turgeon of Acton, ME, a sister Elaine Coby of Springvale, and several nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, and cousins.At Mr. Turgeons' request services will be at the convenience of the family.Memorials in Mr. Turgeons' memory may be made to the S.S.Y.A.A. at 112 Main St. Springvale, ME 04083.
