Conrad J. Cloutier

Conrad Joseph Cloutier, 83 years old, of Sanford, ME died at his home Friday, September 09, 2005 following a brief illness.Conrad was born on December 18, 1921, the oldest son of Ladislas and Mary Rose Charpentier Cloutier. He attended schools in Deering, MA, and then later in Sanford at St. Ignatius.At a young age Conrad joined the Civilian Conservation Corp stationed in Camden, ME for two years, followed by another year and a half in Alfred, ME. After receiving an honorable discharge he went to work at the South Portland Ease Shipyard. He also worked at the Sanford Mills as a supervisor in the finishing room until the mills closure. Following the closure of the mill Conrad worked at the Newington Air force Base, The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and Sprague Electric. In 1973 Conrad went to work for the Sanford School Department where he retired from at the age of 62 as Head Custodian of the Memorial Gymnasium.Conrad and his wife Therese spent many winters in Delray Beach, FL, and Myrtle Beach SC.Conrad was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Sanford, where he volunteered for many years overseeing the security of the grounds. Conrad was also a member of the Lafayette Club, and the Sanford Knights of Columbus.Conrad was a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with his family. His warm smile, gentle demeanor, and inviting disposition made it pleasure to be in his company. Many will miss Conrad, but nobody will forget the twinkle he had in his eye.Predeceasing Conrad was his loving of 53 years Therese Cote Cloutier in 1995, and a daughter Suzanne Cloutier.Conrad is survived by a son Richard and his wife Janet of Springvale; three daughters, Mrs. Philip Muriel) Richard of Lewiston, Mrs. Francis (Rachel) Johnson of West Bath, Mrs. David (Diane) Ridley of Camden; two brothers, Elphage "Ted" of Sanford, Gerard "Joe" of Springvale; two sisters, Eva Martel of Biddeford, and Therese Morin of Texas. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours for Conrad will be held on Sunday September 11, 2004 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St. Sanford, ME.
