Clifford "Kippy" Harvey Allen, 82, longtime resident of Alfred, died October 1, 2003 at his home. He was born in Alfred, March 20, 1921 the son of Ernest and Agnes (Whitehouse) Allen and graduated from the former Alfred High School. Mr. Allen served during WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force as a gunner. He received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with 2 Clusters as a result of service in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.He was employed for the U. S. Postal Service in the Alfred Post Office for 38 years.He was an avid gardener and enjoyed taking care of his large lawn. He was devoted to his family. He also enjoyed playing chess with friends and in tournaments.Over the years he enjoyed the Rangley area when his children were young. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Oklahoma and Texas. For many years he kept a summer home on Swan Pond in Lyman where he liked to fish.He was a 50-year member of Brown-Emmons American Legion Post # 134, Alfred.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jessie (Bickford) Allen; a son, Stephen & Laurie Allen of Limington; 2 daughters, Joan & Gerry Rand of Alfred and Sharon & Kendall Dowe of Oklahoma; a brother, Ralph & Beatrice Allen of Alfred; a sister, Margaret Johnson of Portland; 6 grandchildren, Chris, Amanda, Jason, Raelynn, Kristen and Jeffrey and 9 great-grandchildren.
