Cindy Jo Lee York

April 19, 1957 ~ June 4, 2023
Resided in:
Alfred, Maine
Cindy Jo Lee York, 66, of Waterboro passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2023 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
She was born in Sanford on April 19, 1957 the daughter of Lionel and Joyce Bergeron. Many of her first years were spent with her Grandma Hilda in Carmel, ME. She was a quiet child and was fascinated by reading. Cindy attended Sanford schools graduating from Sanford High School in 1975.
After high school she went to work in local shoe shops and then began to realize her dream of becoming the first female state trooper in Maine. That was prevented when she came to expect her son Tony and she decided to stay and care for him instead. She went on to be employed at Cyro Industries where she met her husband Guy York Sr. Cindy was also employed at a smoked seafood factory and she and her husband had a log home building company for a time. She then went into the medical field as a CNA, working at Evergreen Manor in Saco and most recently has been a dedicated Unit Secretary at Southern Maine Health Care for the past 14 years.
In her personal life, Cindy was a gifted crafter, excelling in crochet, knitting, and quilting. She generously shared her skills by teaching quilting classes and helping others discover the joy of creating. Her love for building things extended beyond the craft room, as she also enjoyed working on various construction projects. She and her son built a campground behind their house complete with running electricity and an outhouse and dreamed of one day having a tiny house that she could retreat to.
She loved to turn up the loud music on Saturday mornings to clean and make breakfast. She enjoyed dancing in her younger years and loved music. She did enjoy traveling and attending concerts with her family, but deep down she was a homebody. She liked to be outside and spending time with her family camping, sitting around a fire, gardening with her husband, and made many cherished memories with her grandsons and granddaughters. In more recent years she found ancestry to be interesting and learned a lot about her roots and family. Cindy was talented, cool, smart, fun and an inspiration to those around her, demonstrating a full life.
Cindy was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 30 years Guy York Sr, and her nephew Jason Smith.
Survivors include her children Tony Charlton of Waterboro, Brandon York of Waterboro, and Amanda Janes and her husband Justin also of Waterboro. Her stepchildren Guy York Jr. and his wife Jo Ann of Manchester MD, Gia Riddle and her husband Jeff of Falmouth, ME, Mia Toomer and her husband Mike of Albuquerque, NM and Staci York and her husband Kevin of Guyton, GA. Grandchildren Tyler, Dylan, Keira, Kinsley, Corinna, Trent, Markie, Autumn, Hope, Robert, and Dakota, great grandchildren, Lillian, Adelynne, Violet, Greyson, Luna and Maverick, her sister Michele Smith and her husband Bob of Sanford, and her beloved Dog Lily and cat Moe.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine, 04083.

I’ve known Cindy for years. Her daughter, Amanda; is my daughter in law. We shared two sweet granddaughters, and she was a great friend
Her kind heart and sense of humor, speak volumes about the kind of woman she was!!! I will miss my sweet friend so very much. Rest in peace, and know how much I loved you and being a “CO” Gramma with you.
Love you forever
I remember back in 1986 Cindy wanted me to take an aerobics class with her and I did I had my leotard on in my 80s headband and she had leggings and a T-shirt and she said to me you don’t need to be here look at you in that leotard lol
Cindy worked at SMHC and I saw her frequently throughout. We always greeted each other, her to me with her wonderful smile. We often spoke of our daughter’s and did a little catching up in the those few moments.
When Amanda and I came home and Cindy was outside building a deck all by herself. She looked really bad ass with her chainsaw! What a woman!
Rest In Peace Cindy 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Cindy was right to the point. No wishy washy. Right to the point. Thru her stories I learned she was a strong woman. And very funny.
She LOVED researching her ancestors of 100 years ago!
Cindy was having a heart attack at a Grateful Dead concert. I’ll never forget that!
Her sense of humor. I loved her stories.
I will always be grateful for Cindy’s help at work
I remember one time we were just shooting the breeze at work and she was telling me about how she was fixing a door frame and maybe some flooring in her house. I asked her who she was going to hire to do the work. She laughed and said “I am,” I always admired her independence and know how. She was such a strong woman and you always knew where you stood with her. I will miss our chats at work Cindy. Rest easy my friend.
