Christine E. Hilton

Christine E. Hilton, 91, formerly of W. Newfield, died October 26 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford after a lengthy illness.She was born in Bath on February 11, 1914, the daughter of Everett and Julia (Higgins) Hilton, and was a 1931 graduate of Morse High School.She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Yarmouth.Mrs. Hilton's talents included playing the piano and organ and knitting and crocheting. She was a family oriented woman who loved children, family get-togethers and cats. She was quite a writer who wrote many letters to her various pen pals and she also composed poetry.She was pre-deceased by her husband, J. Stanley Hilton, Sr. in 2000, by a daughter Shirley Mitchell in 1998 and by a son, Joseph S. Hilton, Jr. in 1990.Survivors include 3 daughters, Barbara Haskell of Freeport, Julia S. (Judy) Bickford and her husband David of W. Newfield, Beverly Langley of Standish, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2 PM in Grove Cemetery in Freeport.
