Christina P. Smith
April 12, 1962 ~ April 15, 2026
Born in: Waterville, Maine
Resided in: Sanford, Maine
Christina P. Smith, 64, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough surrounded by family. She faced a long and courageous journey with cancer showing great strength and resilience.
She was born on April 12, 1962, in Waterville, Maine, to David and Phyllis (Libby) Kent. Christina grew up primarily in Gorham, where she attended local schools and graduated from Gorham High School and Westbrook College. In her younger years, she was a track star who set the 100-meter dash record – a title she still holds, and crowned State of Maine Grange Queen, a reflection of both her beauty and vibrant spirit.
For much of her life, she worked two jobs – spending many years at Shaw’s and Hannaford in Sanford, and devoted over 25 years at Goodall Hospital, a role she truly loved. At Goodall, she found her work family with Dr. Goudreau’s office, where she worked for her final several years. Christina became a familiar and friendly face to so many. She took great pride in helping others and had a gift for connecting with people, always making everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and valued with her warmth and genuine smile.
She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed bowling leagues, playing cribbage, and loved fishing. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, who knew her lovingly as “Grammie.” She found happiness in traveling, especially to Florida, where she adored the sunshine, dolphins, and beaches of John’s Pass and Clearwater. She also had a knack for bargain shopping and had a keen eye for a yard sale sign. Christina will be remembered as a true people person, kind, thoughtful, loving. She was always laughing and always smiling.
Her love extended to her beloved pets – her dogs Betsy, Billy, Biscuit and cats Callie, and Meow-Meow. They all brought her endless companionship and joy.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Harold and Noreen Libby, and Charles and Nina Kent, as well as her uncle, Dennis Kent.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles McMeekin of Sanford; her parents, David and Phyllis Kent of Standish; her children, Sean McKeon and his wife Merilin of York, Shannon Bernard and her husband Mike of Sanbornville, NH, and Shelly Sikes and her husband Kyle of Shapleigh; and her cherished grandchildren, August, Markus, Nora, and Willa.
She also leaves behind her siblings, Kevin Kent and his wife Barbara of Indiana, Alison Briggs of Standish, and Lisa Kent of Florida; her stepchildren, Jessica Minor and her husband Mike of New London, CT, along with their children, Michaela and Mia, Logyn McMeekin of Nashville, TN, Madison McMeekin and her significant other Dan of Dayton and their children, Violet and Sullivan, Patrick McMeekin of Connecticut, and Elijah Smith of Sanford; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

We laughed so much, and shared so many stories.
May you be at peace, and feeling as loved in Heaven as here on earth.
I truly enjoyed the short time that I worked with you at the Sanford Hannaford! You were always smiling and really seemed to love life and made many Hannaford Associates smile and laugh along the way with you! Rest Easy, Chris!

18 years ago our paths crossed and it was an instant connection. Krissy we will always love you and miss your smiles and hugs.
I’m so thankful I broke my wrist just to see you again one more time lol
Sending thoughts and prayers to all of you.
The last time I had a chance to be with Christie she came to my rescue. I had been upstate visiting my family when I had an appendicitis attack. I was sent to Goodall for the surgery so I could be closer to the nursing home where my husband was dying.
I had my 100 lb Labrador Retriever mix dog, Peanut in the car when I drove onto hospital grounds.
When I entered the hospital, there sat Christie. She could tell I was in trouble. I was so glad to see her! I knew her love and compassion for animals. She asked if she could do anything, and I said, “Peanut’s in the car! Could you walk her?” And she did.
Her fun loving helpful spirit lives on in my heart until I can hug her again.
To the Family of Chris,
I worked with Chris at Goodall Hospital. She was a very dedicated employee with a smile for everyone. May she be surrounded in Heaven with all the love she shared here on earth. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Deepest condolences to the family. I knew Christina for over 40 years and would bump into her from time to time. She always had a smile and never failed to recognize me. I babysat Sean while I was in high school, when he was just an infant. So sorry to hear of her passing.
