Garron, 82, of 30th St. in Shapleigh died at his home early Sunday morning June 24, 2001.Mr. Garron was born on October 17, 1918 in Shag Harbor, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of Eldridge and Georgena Cook Garron. At a young age he moved to Gloucester, MA, and on October 1, 1938 he married Barbara L. Barrows Garron.On September of 1944 Mr. Garron enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country during WWII in Company D 3rd Infantry Regiment and returned back to the States on June 11, 1946 after being discharged. Upon his return to Gloucester Mr. Garron worked as a fisherman for the next 30 years. During that time Mr. Garron and his wife raised their four children.Following his years at sea Mr. Garron began a new career. He worked for the North Shore Sports Center in Lynn, MA as the Zamboni driver. As a former goalie in a semi professional hockey league he knew the importance of "good ice". He did this for 25 years. For the past 30 years Mr. Garron and his wife summered on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, until moving there permanently five years ago. There he enjoyed fishing and simply "puttering" around the lake.Surviving is his wife Barbara of Shapleigh; two sons, Chester E. Garron Jr. of Sanford, Ronald A. Garron of Beverly, MA; two daughters, Sherilyn Madruga, and Donna Caswell both of Waterboro, ME; ten grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers; Burnley Garron of Naples, ME, Lloyd Garron of Gloucester, MA and several nieces and nephews.There will be no visitation for Mr. Garron. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements completed by the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale.
