Charles E. Timmons, of Barefoot Bay, Florida and Shapleigh died January 25, 2004 in Biddeford, ME.He was born Vintondale, Penn, December 17, 1914 the son of Edward and Henrietta (Long) and graduated from Altoona High School in Altoona, Penn. Mr. Timmons served in the U.S. Army from 1934 - 1937 and then re-enlisted in the Army Air force during WWII. He obtained the rank of Warrant Officer, whose duty was to transport officers. He participated in the European Theatre Operation, serving in England, France, Belgium and Germany with the Red Ball Express.Upon returning to state side, Charles worked and lived in Braintree, MA operating a gas and service garage. He then went to work for 16 years with the Greyhound Bus Company. Mr. Timmons made his way to Maine in 1971 and resided in Shapleigh for years. He was in law enforcement and held many different positions. Mr. Timmons was a Constable, Civil Defense Director for the town of Shapleigh, as well as Deputy Sheriff for York County Sheriff's Department. He was a longtime member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Limerick and was a Fourth Degree Knight with Council numberMr. Timmons was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans group, an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla and materials officer for the Coast Guard in Vera Beach, Florida, and Saco, Maine. Charles also held membership with the Yacht Club and Retired Police Officer's Club, both in Barefoot Bay, Florida. Charles married his first wife, Gladys Nener Timmons in 1942 and shared 42 years together before her death in 1985. Also predeceasing him is a sister Ann Cupples. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Helen Mae (Phinney) Timmons of Barefoot Bay, Florida and Shapleigh, ME; two sons, Michael of East Bridgewater, MA and, Kevin of Sykesville, MD; a daughter Mary Timmons of Northville, MI; his stepson, C. Wesley Phinney Jr. of Waterboro, ME, and a stepdaughter, Lorrie Petersen of Madison, Conn. Also surviving are 11 loving grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday January 27th from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale; with a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial, to be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Limerick on Wednesday.
