Charles Howitt

Charles Howitt, 81 of Spring Ave. in Rumford, ME and formerly of Howitt Rd. in Lyman, ME died Thursday February 6, 2003 at the Rumford Community Hospital with his family by his side, following a long illness.Mr. Howitt was born in Lyman, ME on July 27, 1918. He was the son of George and Mary Boyes Howitt. He attended Lyman schools and later moved to Rumford. On June 26, 1944 he was married to Margaret Swan Howitt. For over 35 years Mr. Howitt worked for Boise - Cascade of Rumford in the beater room until retiring in 1982.Mr. Howitt was a great family man and his pride and joy were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was also known to enjoy a little fishing now and then.Predeceasing him are his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.Surviving is his wife of 58 years Margaret Swan Howitt of Rumford, three sons, Rodney and Brenda Howitt of Rumford, George and Jenny Howitt of Lyman, and Lee Howitt of Rumford. Also surviving are six grandchildren, David of CO, Angela of Mexico, ME, Douglas of Scarborough, ME, Charles, George and Jennifer all of Lyman, ME, and four great-grandchildren.A memorial service for Mr. Howitt will be held in Rumford, ME in the spring of 2003.
