Cecile G. Merrifield

Springvale, MaineCecile G. Merrifield, 84, of Springvale, Maine, died February 14, 2002 at Huntington Commons, Kennebunk, Maine.She was born in Tedford Mines Quebec, Canada on April 4, 1917 she was the daughter of Alphonse and Leona Richards Tanguay and attended schools in Canada and Vermont.Mrs. Merrifield moved to Vermont at age 10 and then moved to Alfred as a teenager, and has lived in this area ever since.She enjoyed knitting and sewing. She made many clothes for Barbie Dolls which she gave to The Old Timers Shop. Mrs. Merrifield also taught a knitting class at one time.Mrs. Merrifield was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Roman Catholic Church of Springvale where she was involved with numerous church fairs as well as various other events there. At the time of her husband George Merrifield's death in 1992, they were the oldest married couple of The Notre Dame Parish at 55 years.She was very close to her family members. She volunteered some of her time to The Maine Stay Nursing home in Sanford, and was a regular at The Trafton Senior Center. .She is survived by her son Maurice Merrifield of Wells, ME; her brothers Lionel Tanguay of Rye, NH., Clement Tanguay of Saco, ME., and Reno Tanguay of Fresno, CA; by her sisters Noella Caron of Sanford, ME., Fleurette Dumont of Berwick, ME., Regina Bailey of Berwick, ME., and Madeline Gravel of Rochester, NH; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Sunday at Heald Funeral Home 580 Main Street Springvale, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM in Notre Dame de Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Springvale, Maine.
