Catherine Ann Marie Noonan

Catherine Noonan, 65, of Sanford, Maine passed away on March 15 in Puerto Rico after a valiant battle with bile duct cancer.

Catherine, known as Cathy, was born on December 19, 1960 in Hull, Québec and raised in Hampton, NH. After graduating from Winnacunnet High School in 1978, she went on to study at Plymouth State College.

In 1991, Cathy met Robert Bryan and together, they raised two daughters in Sanford, Maine. She was a loving and devoted mother who will be deeply missed.

Throughout her school days, Cathy was an avid athlete and excelled at skiing, softball and basketball. In high school, she loved being in the band. She was known for her skill at piano and performed at many school concerts. As an adult, she was a sports fan and never missed a Patriots game. She also coached her daughters in soccer, basketball and softball; no distance was ever too far for her to drive to watch her children’s sports games.

As a professional dog groomer, Cathy was frequently requested by clients who knew that their pets would emerge especially well-coiffed under Cathy’s expert hands. She also worked as a school bus driver in the Maine school system and as trolley driver in Ogunquit.

Her passion for dogs extended to breeding and showing, and she took pride in showing her bulldog Ollie and in recent years her corgi Augie.

Cathy loved to travel, especially on cruise lines that went to warm weather locales. Her idea of paradise was sitting on a sandy beach, umbrella drink in hand, and looking over the sapphire waters of the Caribbean.

Cathy is predeceased by her parents John and Frances Noonan and by her partner Robert Bryan. She is survived by her children Samantha Bryan of Biddeford, ME and Kaitlyn Bryan of Boston MA; her sister Margaret Witherington (Blake) of Newburyport, MA; her granddaughter Olivia Frances and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and partner, she was predeceased by her birthmother Diane Cashman. Other Canadian family members who survive her include half- siblings Lynn Chenier and Mike Chenier of Gatineau, Quebec; Lynda St. Lewis of Ottawa, Ontario and Wayne McGuire, Danny McGuire and Gerry McGuire of Ontario, Canada.

She also leaves behind her adored corgis Josie and Augie.

Visiting hours will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a celebration of life immediately following on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Black-Heald Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth, NH where she will be laid to rest alongside her parents John and Frances Noonan.

  3. I’ve missed driving with you and will always. We did have fe for you to rest easy un. Say hello to John… Hugs RIP Cathy 💗

  4. I grew up with Cathy on Josephine Dr in Hampton and have great memories of all of us kids playing together. Cathy was great at sports so we always wanted her on our team. She was an excellent piano player as well.

Thankfully we reconnected and I was able to spend time with her on Lake Winnipesaukee. No matter what she was going through, she always smiled and laughed.

RIP Cathy, until we meet again.

Our Deepest Sympathy to her family.

  5. We met Cathy through Sanford LLSoftball. Years later I had the pleasure of working with Cathy at RSU57. Wonderful and very strong lady. So very proud of you Caty
Face always lit up when she talked about you and sports
Rest in peace my friend, you gave it the good fight ❤️

  6. Cathy was my oldest first cousin as our moms were only siblings. My sisters and I never realized how truly blessed we were when we were young and mom took us each summer to visit Cathy and Margaret in NH. Cathy was always tons of fun and loved everything about water and the beach. We spent many summer days with her in Hampton, Portsmouth and York Beach. When our son was born, she came to Louisiana to meet him. When Cathy was a very young woman, she had non-Hodgkins lymphoma and wasn’t sure she could have children. My husband and I decided to name our daughter after her as she meant a lot to me. Cathy had many unplanned struggles in life but always kept going forward. She loved and fiercely protected those she cherished. Her girls always meant the world to her. I’m so sorry none of us were able to have that last conversation and hug her goodbye that day. However, I have great peace that she was having the time of her life on a vacation she chose and did it her way. We love you so much Cathy and look forward to seeing you again someday. Thank you so much for all the beautiful memories you leave behind. May you rest in peace eternally. I will continue to pray for your girls and Margaret as they navigate through this difficult time without you. We love y’all.

  7. What precious memories I have with my cousin, Cathy. She always prioritized family time! Anytime my family and I were visiting from out-of-state, Cathy made sure we had “quality time” with her. She was funny and fun to be with!!

Samantha, Katy, and Margaret… I have been praying for y’all to have God’s peace that passes all understanding. I have had that same peace, even when I didn’t think it was possible. I love that you could even see the Hand of God when you were in Puerto Rico and encountered the priest from New Hampshire. That was not a coincidence. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) You are so loved!!
