Carolyn A. Moffett

Portland Carolyn A. Moffett, 75, formerly of Woodlawn Avenue and Northfield Green, died Saturday, May 07, 2016, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Portland on September 11, 1940, daughter of Martin and Evelyn (Hersey) Piacitelli. Carolyn lost her father when she was four years old. Her mother later married John DiMatteo, who loved Carolyn like she was his own. She attended St. Dominics School and later graduated from Cathedral High School, class of 1958. She met her future husband, Robert Moffett, during high school, and they married on September 10, 1960. Carolyn enjoyed a successful career, joining the workforce as a computer specialist in the early 1960s (when the field was new), starting at Canal Bank and ultimately retiring from a management role at L.L. Bean in 1995. While her career was remarkable for a woman of her time, it was her love of life and love of her family that truly made her special. Carolyn worked the majority of her career on back shifts (sacrificing her sleep) so that she could maximize her time with her family. Bob and Carolyn moved to Florida after retirement, where they made many special friends. They returned to Maine in 2003 to spend more time with their grandchildren. Carolyn loved life and could find humor in almost any situation. Her distinctive laughter was frequent and contagious, and her smile and warmth lit up any room. Carolyn worked as a hotel desk clerk after retirement, both in Florida and in Maine. Her love of people and ease of making new friends made her a natural in this role. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; and their son, Scot. She is survived by a son, Steven and his wife Lisa of Colchester, Connecticut; daughter, Michelle Beasley and husband Andrew of Buxton; two grandchildren, Jenelle and Nathan Beasley; a nephew, and two nieces. The family would like to thank the staff of Fallbrook Woods, Falmouth by the Sea, Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, and her special friends, Kate and Mia, for their exceptional care and compassion. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am, Friday, at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave, Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
