Carol J. Sullivan

August 6, 1940 ~ October 26, 2026

Born in: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Sanford, Maine

Carol Joyce Sullivan, 86, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 26, 2026, surrounded by the caring staff at Pinnacle Health
and Rehabilitation in Sanford, Maine, and Compassus Hospice Services of Scarborough, Maine.

Born August 6, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mildred Krebs, and the middle of three children.

Carol grew up in South Berwick, Maine, and eventually married her high school boyfriend and classmate, “Ritchie.” After graduating from Berwick Academy in South Berwick, ME, she attended McIntosh College in Dover, NH. Eventually, she and Ritchie, who graduated from Wentworth College in Boston, MA, moved to Westford, MA, where they raised three children.

In Westford, she made many lifelong friends through volunteer work in the schools and as a Girl Scout Leader, serving for many years as the “Cookie Mom.” She also became very close with her neighbors, especially her next-door neighbor, who became her best friend in 1966. What brought her great joy was her church, The United Methodist Church of Graniteville, MA. She sang in the choir while Ritchie brought the three kids to Sunday School. She was an active member and proudly ran the Christmas Table, featuring all things “Handmade Christmas.” The women of the church at that time became very dear friends. Once all her children were of school age, she worked part-time as a dental office manager, and one summer, she enjoyed working at a car auction.

They also lived for a time in Keene, NH, before ultimately returning home to Maine. Returning to Maine allowed them to reconnect with relatives and old classmates, while continually making new friends. Theirs was a wonderfully rich social life, filled with countless shared dinners, parties with the neighbors, and travel throughout the United States. She was a member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church in Sanford, ME.

Carol was diagnosed with MS in her early 50’s, but symptoms had begun sooner. Although it was a difficult diagnosis, she accepted her body’s changes with grace and no complaints. She was always thankful for what she could do.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Sullivan, Jr. He passed on April 25, 2019 at age 79 of Pancreatic Cancer. He was Carol’s caregiver until his death.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Kramer of Englewood, FL; her daughter, Kimberly Cohen (Ivan), her son, David Sullivan (Amy), her grandchildren; Skyler Kramer (Rebecca), Greer Kramer, Tanner Cohen, Lindsey Cohen, Sawyer Sullivan and Brennan Sullivan, her brother, Douglas Krebs (Cecil), her sister Linda Sherman, her niece, Debbie Hubbard (Shawn), her sister-in-law, Sharon Ryan (Charlie), her cousin, Linda Chouinard (Roger), and other extended family members.

A Time of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Black-Heald Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, ME, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
