Camille A. Bernier

Camille A. Bernier, 93, of Sanford, passed away on Saturday September 3, 2005 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. He was born in St. Onesime, P.Q., Canada on September 17, 1911 a son of Gustave and Celina (Blanchette) Bernier. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. For many years he was employed as a weaver at the former Sanford Goodall Mills. He then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and retired in 1971 after many years of service. For 25 years he volunteered a the Trafton Center.He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He was also involved in several organizations in Sanford including the American Legion Thomas W. Cole Post #19, Sanford Springvale VFW #9935, Sanford Elks Lodge #1470, the Rev. John J. McGinnis Council #2231 Knights of Columbus and the Rev. W. Robert Batchelder General Assembly #0357 Knights of Columbus 4th degree.He is predeceased by his first wife, Yvette (Ouellette) Bernier, second wife, Rita (Prefontaine) Bernier, third wife, Alice (Brin) Bernier, one stepson, Richard Couture, and by one stepdaughter, Henrietta Desruisseaux.He is survived by one son, Richard Maurais of Florida, one daughter, Jackie Barrier of North Carolina, stepson, Bro. Mark Couture of Alfred, one brother, Arthur Bernier of Florida and several grandchildren.Visiting hours will be on Tuesday September 6 from 6-8pm at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11AM at St. Ignatius Church. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.In lieu of flowers contributios may be made in his memory to the Meals on Wheels Program, Trafton Center, 19 Elm Street, Sanford, ME 04073.Condolences may be expressed at the tab at left.
