Bertha S. Washington

Bertha S. Washington, 93, of Sanford, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the Greenwood Center in Sanford. Born in Sanford on October 26, 1917, she was daughter of the late Napoleon and Clara (Normand) Lavallee. She attended St. Ignatius School and was a lifelong member of the parish.Bertha was employed as a waitress at the former JB diner and was then employed at the Aletta Dress Shop. She enjoyed crocheting, jig saw puzzles, word puzzles and reading.She is predeceased by her husband, George Washington who passed away in 1986.She is survived by her children, Sandra Whitten and her husband, Brian of Shapleigh, John S. Washington and his wife Fran of Clairmont, FL, and Peter J. Washington of Newfield, two grandsons, John Washington II and Jeremy Washington, one great grandson, John Washington III.A funeral service for Mrs. Washington will take place on Saturday at 11AM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
