Bertha S. Lemieux,89, of Sanford passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024 surrounded by her children. She was born on September 25, 1934, in Sanford, the daughter of Honorat and Regina Cote. She attended Sanford Schools and was a member of the class of 1952. She worked in the local woolen mills until she met the “love of her life”, Gerard Lemieux. They were married for 67 years until his passing in 2019. Bertha was a devout Catholic and lived her life with grace in the Lord’s name. She was a lifelong member of the Daughters of Isabella. Some of her passions included cooking, entertaining friends, having family parties and traveling with family and friends. Bertha and Gerry enjoyed many wonderful trips around the world. She also loved walking. In her late sixties and into her seventies she won many Senior Olympic medals for 5K walking in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Bertha and Gerry lived in Sanford until they moved as a military family to Fort Knox, KY and to Greentown, OH. Later they resided back in Sanford but wintered for many years in Myrtle Beach, SC, enjoying their retirement years. She was beloved by all who knew her and had such a kind and gentle demeanor. We will miss her so……Until we meet again. She is predeceased by her husband Gerard, Brothers Robert and Roger Cote, and sisters Theresa Cloutier, and Claire Morin. She is survived by her sister Gertrude (Raymond) Landry of Okatie, SC, five children Laurie-Anne Martin of Shapleigh, Laurette (Douglas) Ford of Sanford, Lorraine Lemieux of Sanford, Andre (Carol) Lemieux of Lebanon, Robert (Tanja) Lemieux of Pickerington, OH, sister-in-law Rita Cote, of Springvale, brother-in-law Bob Bisson of Springvale, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave, Sanford, ME. Interment to take place at Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Maryknoll Missions at: https://maryknollsociety.org/ D.A.V.   1. My deepest sympathy to the whole family…
    I’ve been best friend’s with her daughter Raine for most of my life and even though Bertha would go years without seeing me she always greated me with that welcoming smile and always called me by name like I was family… Always hugged hello and goodbye…

  2. Although I only knew her for a short while, she was always so sweet to me and I will never forget how she always seemed as though she was meeting me for the first time. 😊

  4. An awesome mother-in-law, who never forgot me and continue to send me Christmas cards as well as birthday cards. She never forgot me know will I ever forget her I know God has a special place for you in heaven
