Bertha Dugre-Demers, 85, of Sanford, ME, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024 in her home with her beloved family at her side. Bertha was born on February 16th, 1939, in Sanford Maine, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret (Huard) Boulet of Sanford. She grew up in Sanford and attended local schools, graduating from St. Ignatius High School in 1957 and met her first husband Richard “Duke” Dugre. In July of 1959, Bertha married Duke and spent 54 memorable years together. Together they built their roots in Sanford and she stayed home to raise their three children. Not long after her children went to school, she began her career at Raymond Beaudoin Dental in town as the receptionist. For 20 years she greeted all her patients with a warm and welcoming smile. Upon her retirement, Bertha enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. She liked creating new friendships, playing card games, relaxing in the sun, shopping, and exploring the area. In the summer of 2016, one of Bertha’s dear friends arranged a small coffee date for her in hopes of bringing her joy back after Duke's passing. There she met her new love, Wayne Demers. They were happily married in the coming year and adored each other's company. In her later years, Bertha adored her family gatherings, visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The light in her eyes would shine bright when they were around, they brought her true joy. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family and dear friends will greatly miss her. Bertha was preceded in death by both her parents, her brother Richard Boulet, her sister Lorraine Porter, her daughter Susan Masse, and her beloved first husband Richard “Duke” Dugre. Surviving are her husband, Wayne Demers of Sanford; two children Stephen Dugre and girlfriend Tracy Lupo of Ashburn, VA, and Michelle Sherman and her husband Richard of Springvale; her son-in-law, Michael Masse and his wife, Rebecca of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Nicholas, Kendra, Andrew, Sarah and Kristen.
