Bernice "Betty" Hachey, 92, of Springvale, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 5, 2024. Betty was born on November 17, 1931, to the late Harold and Edith (Littlefield) Day, at home in Springvale. She grew up in Springvale and attended local schools.
After high school, Betty was employed at Raymond's Store. She married her childhood neighbor Raymond Hachey and together they shared 52 years of marriage until Raymond's passing in 2004. Betty was a lifelong resident of Springvale, aside from the four years she spent in Virginia while her husband served in the U.S. Navy.
Betty and Raymond were communicants of Notre Dame Church in Springvale. She was a meticulous homemaker, taking great pride in caring for her family and creating a warm, welcoming home. Betty enjoyed sewing clothes for herself and her daughters, and she took delight in tending to her flower gardens.
As their children grew up, Betty and Raymond cherished their time wintering in Myrtle Beach for several years. Betty also found joy in visiting casinos, including Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, Oxford, Niagara Falls, and Las Vegas. She also enjoyed the CB radio, with handles such as "Silver Bells" and "Betty Boop."
Betty was a quiet and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, always putting her family's needs before her own. She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Raymond Hachey, and all of her 10 siblings, making her the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Donna Crowell and her husband Herbert of Springvale, and Melissa Baker and her husband Jack of Sanford. She leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Aaron Davis and his significant other Heather Gilman of Alfred, Benjamin Davis and his wife Alicia of Parsonsfield, Brett Baker and his wife Sahara of Springvale, and Tasha Baker and her significant other Jeremy Elliott of Sanford. Betty was also blessed with eight great-granddaughters, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty's legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength will be remembered by all who knew her.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. with a service starting at 12:00 P.M. at Carll Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. Burial will follow immediately after at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale.
Betty and Ray were the first people we met when we moved into the neighborhood. She will be missed.
