Bernard H. Hall, 96, of Sanford, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Bernard was born in Sanford on October 22, 1915 to John and Dorothy (Staples) Hall. When he was a young man he worked for the Civil Corps of Conservation for several years before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Hawaii and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. In 1950, Bernard married Beatrice Twombley. They raised five children together and shared 56 years together until her death in 2006.Bernard was a very hard working man. He was employed by Lavalley Lumber and several other lumber companies for many years, working as a woodsman. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time outdoors and doing work and chores around his house. He continued to cut and stack his own firewood until two years ago. Bernard was very proud of his military service. He had been an active member of the American Legion in Sanford. He had an excellent sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. He was also a cat lover and kept cats throughout most of his life. Bernard will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Bernard was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice Hall.Surviving are five children, Robert L. Hall and his wife Belma of Shapleigh, June C. Boivin and her husband Daniel of Lebanon, John B. Hall and his wife Donna of Sanford, William B. Hall and his wife Diane of Saco and Susan L. Hall of Sanford; a sister-in-law, Cora Hall of Sanford, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 30th.
