Beatrice "Betty" C. LibbeySanford, MaineBeatrice C. Libbey, 88, of Square Pond, Shapleigh, ME., died July 17, 2001 at The Sanford Goodall Hospital.She was born in New Bedford, MA., on March 28, 1913 the daughter of Joseph and Charlotte King Lima, and attended schools there.She was a veteran serving during World War II in The United States Navy from 1943-1945 as a pharmacist 1st class.Mrs. Libbey was married in 1946 to Bryce Libbey, and have lived on Square Pond in Shapleigh for 32 years. She worked for Alletta Dress shop in Sanford before owning and operating Betty's Knit Shop in Sanford. Mrs. Libbey was the first president of the Amvets Auxiliary in Sanford. She enjoyed bowling.She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bryce O. Libbey of Square Pond, Shapleigh; a son Douglas R. Libbey of Westbrook; a daughter Christine A. Libbey of Springvale; brothers, Sam Lima of Florida, Russell Lima of Florida; sisters Frances Hemby of Texas, Laura Spooner of California; she is also survived by a granddaughter Kelly Johnstone of Milton Mills, NH., a grandson Ostin Rivard of Springvale and many step grand and great grandchildren.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday in Oakdale Cemetery, Sanford, Maine. Arrangements are completed by Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, ME.
